Rainbow Council Operation: Scouting at Home

The Council Key Three has agreed to suspend all council related activities till May 4th. This includes programs, in-person training, and in-person meetings. This includes activities on a unit level. We strongly encourage the use of digital conferencing platforms for meetings on a unit level. The Service Center in Lockport will remain closed until further notice. Our staff will be available remotely and we encourage the use of digital communications. Please refer to the Contact Us page to see where your inquiries should be directed.

Did you know Scoutbook is online? The Scouts BSA Handbook for Girls and Scouts BSA Handbook for Boys is available on Amazon Kindle. When you purchase these, they are digital copies of the Scoutbook that you can access anywhere you use the Kindle app. Make sure you use Amazon Smile and have Rainbow Council as your charity of choice, to help support local scouting!

Did you know we are holding meetings online? We will be hosting all of our meetings online during these times. We have several Facebook groups to keep everyone in contact.

We will add more resources as they become available so stay tuned!

Have you been to a Councilwide roundtable?
If you have, you know they are a great resource for idea and information for Leaders and Adults alike! Here we will share the videos for viewing purposes.

March Digital Roundtable

April Digital Roundtable

Coming soon!

While we can’t cover all possible scenarios for Scouting for the rest of this event, we have tried to cover all kinds of situations and have come up with solutions.

Here are the questions we have had over the course of the past few weeks. As we get more questions from volunteers and parents, we will try to address them here and our social media platforms.

We are always listening and adhering to rules and advice regarding the current situation as our top priority is keeping scouts safe.

Thank you for all that you do!

We can’t do show and sells for Camp Cards. What should we do?

We understand that show and sell isn’t viable in our area at this time, however the Camp Card coupons don’t expire till December 31, 2020. We are extending the deadlines for collecting on the Camp Cards, check the web page for details.

How is Rainbow Council handling Advancement?

Please see attached link.

When will programs/camping/in-person training return?

We understand some units are having trouble not meeting in person or have been looking forward to camping all year. We are following local and state guidelines in order to keep everyone safe. Our biggest priority is the safety of our youth and scouters alike. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding at this time.

Can I still visit the Scout Shop to purchase something or go to the service center for information or paperwork?

We have closed the service center until further notice. This includes the Scout Shop.

Eagle Board of Reviews:  Although we feel a face to face board of review is an important part of the Eagle process; we realize that this is not currently possible. Because of this, we are now offering a video conference Eagle Board of Reviews. To schedule a Board of review, contact your District Advancement Chairman.

Do a Good Turn Online!

Doing a good turn daily is still important. There are many ways to accomplish a good turn while practicing social distancing. Make sure to ask your parents before starting a good turn to see if it’s safe and a good idea for your area.

  • Do a neighborly chore. If it snows, you can shovel your neighbors driveway. If their lawn needs raking, rake up leaves and wash up afterwards.
  • Send video greetings to nursing homes. Lots of nursing homes are equip with Skype to allow for phone calls for family members. See if your local nursing home would like a few calls from their local Scouts to keep residents company.
  • Create, scan, and send cards and thank yous to local hospitals and emergency response workers.
  • Share or start an online campaign for relief fundraising, or participate in an online fundraiser.
  • Create a drive by scavenger hunt in the community. There are lots of ways to reach out to your community. Ask an adult to help you coordinate with other parents to set up a scavenger hunt  by displaying shamrocks or Easter eggs in the windows.
  • Order someone a pizza! Not only are you supporting a small business, but it shows someone you are thinking about them. If you know someone who is stuck at home or can’t go out, show them you are thinking about them and send them a pie!
